While doing research for an upcoming talk I'm giving in Dayton, Ohio next month, I keep running into items in my own personal Sherlockian archives that I had forgotten about, and thus serve to derail my search. Here's one...a clipping from an unknown, unnamed newspaper, dated March 28, 1985. It is a wonderful UPI publicity shot of Jeremy Brett while in America on a publicity tour. Dateline New York, the caption reads: "Actor Jeremy Brett, who plays the title role in 'The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes,' on a PBS television station, scrutinizes the original manuscript of Arthur Conan Doyle's story, 'The Adventure of the Priory School.' Brett met the manuscript's owner, Marvin Epstein of Montclair, New Jersey, at a reception in a Manhattan restaurant for Holmes fans." For those of us who were there, and those of us who weren't, its a reminder that those were heady days in the Sherlockian Universe.
